Lighting is an important factor in any interior design project and vital for comfortable and practical living spaces. As important is the style, the design, and the purpose of the lighting. While the pendant light over the island or kitchen peninsula is still a wonderful feature, there is a growing trend towards larger styles with bold statements – bright colors, industrial styles, natural materials. Glass, metals, fabrics crafted into modern contemporary and traditional styles all seem to find a place in our modern day kitchen – a room that is becoming more visible as it’s become the hub of socializing.

So it was fun when we got a call from a client wanting to address her kitchen lighting. In addition to the lighted display cabinetry and recessed overhead lighting that enhanced her elegant kitchen, we added 3 decorative pendants to her island.

This beautifully hand crafted midnight blue transparent glass cylinder pendant (from Arteriors) on the right has solid brass fittings. At 17” in length, it makes a beautiful statement over a large island made for entertaining.
